In the words of Confucius, “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”
Tankwa Classics 2022 invites you to join us as we celebrate the arts and music amid the picturesque Karoo hinterland, underneath a million karoo stars, in our million-year-old canyon. In a celebration of the senses, our programme brings together, wind ensembles, pianists, cellists, opera singers, and flutes – all in combination with delicious cuisine, in the heart of the Tankwa Karoo.
Whether you would prefer to sleep under the stars, or ‘glamp’ it up – our range of accommodation options aims to cater to all needs. In-between performances, guests can enjoy our ‘karoo’-style infinity dam, guided nature walks or simply take a stroll along our art walk, to the infamous canyon – whatever the heart desires.
If you are a lover of nature, breath-taking classical musical performances, stargazing, open spaces, and the tech-free, fresh air – then this is a weekend not to be missed!
Place of Dreams cannot wait to share this truly magical experience with you!

Wind Ensemble
WINDWORX SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE
WINDWORX SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE was founded in 2005 to provide a platform for professional and semiprofessional musicians to perform the crème de la crème of wind band music. Over the last 11 years it has played and recorded this fine music under the baton of resident conductor, Sean Kierman and guest conductors, Allan Stephenson, Mathew Reid, Phil Golson and Rik Ghesquière, for which it has gained considerable local and international attention. Windworx aims to provide a vehicle for post-graduate musicians from all walks of life to practise their art and perform music of an advanced level.
THE UNIVERSITY OF STELLENBOSCH SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE
THE UNIVERSITY OF STELLENBOSCH SYMPHONIC WIND ENSEMBLE (USSWE) was established by Dr. Paul Loeb van Zuilenburg in 1976, with only 10 members. It was the first university level Wind Band to be established in the Western Cape. Subsequent conductors were Faan Malan, the late Mervyn Solomon, Andries Smit, the late Albert Engel (first full-time brass lecturer at the Music Department) and Prof Corvin Matei. Pamela Kierman took over in 2004 and during her time USSWE has had the opportunity to work with several guest conductors including Sean Kierman, Riaan van Wyk, Rik Ghesquière, Robert Maxym, Phil Golson and Allan Stephenson among others.
